Cultivando Facilitates the Latino Engagement Taskforce of Commerce City

The City of Commerce City has hired Cultivando to facilitate a Latino Engagement Taskforce (LET), in order to increase engagement, build positive community relationships, and better reach and serve the Latino Community in Commerce City.

The LET is a 6-8 month collaborative process where Latino community members apply and are selected to sit on a committee which comes together to learn about City processes and systems and then make recommendations to the City around building better and more collaborative relationships with their community. The first round of the LET, concluded in 2016, led to significant policy and practice changes in the city, including hiring more bilingual/bicultural staff, developing and implementing a policy that city police officers and department are not interested in community members' immigration status unless they commit a felony (which has been shown to increase community safety, community trust, and to increase crime reporting and cooperation of witnesses), and the implementation of Spanish Telephone Town Halls 2 times/year.

The second round of LET will conclude in July, 2018, and we look forward to sharing those recommendations when they are finalized!

Growing the Promotora Model Throughout Colorado

In 2016 we recieved funding from The Colorado Health Foundation to work with Visión y Compromiso (VyC) to grow their highly-effective model here in Colorado. We are in the process of training Cultivando staff to be able to offer VyC curricula throughout the state, to build the collaboration and advocacy of Latino community leaders around the state.

Cultivando will work with VyC staff to support committees of Promotoras to identify local and state policy issues that impact community health and well-being and support collective advocacy to move those issues forward.

For more information on their organization, please check out our incredible partners at Visión y Compromiso.
